Council of the Federation Meeting
Submitted by Mary Simon on Thursday, August 6, 2009

Yesterday at the annual Council of the Federation meeting held in Regina I had the opportunity to speak directly to the Territorial and Provincial Premiers on matters of concern to Inuit.
Critical points I spoke to include the necessity of a process for Aboriginal engagement with the federal government, the H1N1 flu virus, education, skills training, and economic development.
I am very pleased that there was agreement to create a working group aimed at leading a discussion on Aboriginal issues in anticipation of a First Ministers Meeting in 2010 and look forward to working with the group on matters of concern to Inuit.
My speaking notes for the meeting are available here.
