Students On Ice

Working in collaboration with Students on Ice as part of 2010 Year of the Inuit, and International Polar Year (IPY), we are happy to announce that scholarship application forms for the 2010 Students on Ice Arctic Youth Expedition are now available online on the Inuit2010.ca website. Students on Ice is a unique educational program designed to encourage the next generation of polar scientists, researchers, and environmentalists, by offering annual ship based hands on learning expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic. This year the Arctic expedition will leave from my home community of Kuujjuaq and travel up the eastern coast of Baffin Island where participants from around the world will experience firsthand the wonder of that part of our homeland.

2010 Year of the Inuit Scholarships, Students on Ice, Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, and International Polar Year (IPY), have partnered to offer over a dozen fully-funded positions on the upcoming Students on Ice Arctic Youth Expedition scheduled for August 4-20, 2010. Canadian students interested in participating in this year’s program are encouraged to obtain a copy of the scholarship application form from either the 2010 Year of the Inuit Students on Ice website, or directly from the Students on Ice website. I would encourage Inuit youth from across Inuit Nunangat to submit their scholarship applications for this exciting program. 2010 is the Year of the Inuit and what better way to promote our language and culture than to join a group of students from around the world and spend two weeks living, learning, and sharing with them.
