Health & Social Services in Nunavik

I am pleased to see that the government of Quebec will, over the next seven years, invest over $300 million ($280 million infrastructure, $61.5 million budget increases) for the delivery and funding of health and social services as well as improving facilities in Nunavik.

Many people may not be aware that the vast majority of Inuit communities throughout the Arctic have only basic services, and for mental health, the services are virtually nonexistnt. In many instances a person who is ill or injured must be flown to a hospital in the south.

There is much that needs to be addressed in the area of health and well-being across our homeland. Funding for facility upgrades and much needed medical equipment in Nunavik will help address some of those issues in that region. The Province of Quebec's recognition of that , and steps it is taking to address those issues, are welcome.
