Inuvialuit Final Agreement 25th Anniversary

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the Inuvialuit, and Nellie Cournoyea, Chief Executive Officer and Chairperson of the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation, on the 25th anniversary of the signing of the “Inuvialuit Final Agreement”.

On June 5, 1984, after ten years of hard work and negotiations by the Inuvialuit of the Northwest Territories they, and the federal government, signed a comprehensive land claims agreement. It was not only one of the first of its kind but helped lead the way for other comprehensive agreements between Inuit and the Government of Canada.

The hard work and dedication that went into this agreement, and the continued hard work and dedication of the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation on behalf of Inuvialuit, is appreciated by all Canadian Inuit.
