Inuit Contribute $90,000 to Haitian Earthquake Relief
National Inuit Leader Mary Simon, President of Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami is pleased to announce that Inuit organizations are collectively making a contribution of $90,000 to the relief efforts in Haiti. The Inuit organizations contributing to this fund are: Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, Inuvialuit Regional Corporation, Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated, Makivik Corporation, Nunatsiavut Government, Kivalliq Inuit Association, Qikiqtani Inuit Association, and the Kitikmeot Inuit Association.
Further, it was announced by the President of Makivik and Chairman of First Air, Mr. Pita Aatami, that three of the airline's planes will be air lifting relief supplies to Haiti - two Hercules and a Boeing 767 cargo plane. The 767 is in collaboration with the Belinda Stronach Foundation.
Inuit are calling on the government of Canada to match the financial contribution as they are matching the contributions of individual donors to Haiti relief
