Coral Harbour General Assembly

Event Date:
Wednesday, May 24, 1978

The Inuit of Coral Harbour held a general assembly to discuss proposed Government of the Northwest Territories wildlife legislation.

At the assembly a community resolution was passed stating that if the proposed legislation was enacted the community would not recognize it as they felt it threatened Inuit culture and society.

A further community resolution stated that if the new legislation was enacted the community would continue to follow current legislation which they felt, was more reflective of their hunting culture, and that they would launch legal action against the new legislation.
