The Hon. Charlie Watt was Founding President of the Northern Quebec Inuit Association and its successor, Makivik Corp. He served as Chief Negotiator for the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement in 1975 and as Co-Chair of the Inuit Committee on National Issues, which was instrumental in the recognition of Aboriginal rights in the Canadian Constitution Act, 1982. He was appointed to the Senate of Canada in 1984.
