Northern Environmental Conference

Event Date:
Saturday, January 28, 1995

Inuit Tapirisat of Canada (now Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami) held a Northern Environmental Conference in Nain, Nunatsiavut, from January 28 - 30, 1995.

The conference began with a series of presentations on major environmental issues affecting the Arctic and Inuit communities. These included wildlife and harvesting, local pollution, global atmospheric pollution, and other issues related to environment, culture, and education.

The conference brought together hunters, youth, regional health and environmental professionals, national Inuit leadership (ITC), and international Inuit leadership (ICC). The goal was to identify environmental priorities, and develop recommendations and processes that allowed for effective response and communication between community, regional, national, and international levels on various issues.
