Northern Quebec Regional Youth Council Formed

From November 4-6 1976 Nunavik youth gathered in Povungnituk with the aim of forming the Northern Quebec Regional Youth Council.

The following 9 people were elected as directors for the council:
 
President- Tania Qunnuajuak- Povungnituk.
1st Vice President- Aipili Qumaluk Wakeham Bay.
2nd Vice President- Simionie Baron George River.
Secretary Treasurer- Anna Putugu Povungnituk.
Director - Alice Pov- Inukjuak.
Director - Sandy Tooma- Fort Chimo.
Director- Willie Annanack- George River.
Director- Willie Adams
 
 
The aims and objectives of the Northern Quebec Youth Council were stated as:
 
  1. To unite all youth of Northern Quebec.
  2. To promote and protect Inuit culture.
  3. To contribute and to promote and encourage and to develope sports and recreation in the communities.
  4. To improve communications and education between communites.
  5. To be able to view the concerns of the youth and to help them in any way possible
  6. To set up community programs for the benefit of the communities.
