Nunavut Land Claims Agreement Signed

On May 25, 1993 the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement (NCLA) was signed by the Government of Canada, the Government of the Northwest Territories, and the Tungavik Federation of Nunavut (now Nunavut Tunngavik Inc.).

In addition to the creation of management and advisory groups, and various financial considerations, the NCLA gave the Inuit of Nunavut title to approximately 350,000 sq/km of land, 35,257 sq/km of which includes mineral rights.
