NWT Boundry Plebiscite

Monday, May 4, 1992 In 1990 the Government of Canada mandated John Parker, Commissioner of the Northwest Territories (NWT) from 1979 – 1989, to propose a border that would divide the NWT into two separate territories.
On May 4th, 1992, 54% of those who voted in the plebiscite endorsed the proposed boundary which was then adopted by the Tunngavik Federation of Nunavut, the Government of the NWT, and the Government of Canada.
