Pond Inlet Community TV First Broadcast

Monday, October 30, 1978 With the assistance of a $44,000 grant from the Donner Canadian Foundation, and equipment donated by the CBC, PIC-TV broadcast the first local community programming in Inuktitut.
Until this time point Pond Inlet Inuit had received only ½ hour per week of Inuktitut and northern programming, with the balance being southern broadcasts in either English or French.
The local program line-up included
- cultural education
- local entertainment
- information & community viewpoints
Additional programming plans included content from local musicians, story-tellers, film-makers, and organizing a variety of shows relating to traditional & modern hunting techniques, language, skin preparation & sewing, history, dances, and local sports.
