Qapirangajuq: Inuit Knowledge and Climate Change
The public is invited to a special screening of “Qapirangajuq: Inuit Knowledge and Climate Change”, hosted by Igloolik Isuma Productions, Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, and ArcticNet.
The world’s first Inuktitut-language film on climate change takes viewers on the land with elders and hunters to explore the social and ecological impacts of a warming Arctic. Participants will hear Inuit speak first-hand about changes to the sky, landscape, ice and wildlife. These insights – borne from centuries of experiential knowledge – demonstrate that Inuit are experts regarding environmental change and indigenous ways of adapting to it. While these perspectives both support and challenge mainstream thinking, they leave no doubt that Inuit are on the frontlines of climate change, arguably the paramount issue of our time.
The presentation will be followed by a Q+A with Inuk director Zacharias Kunuk and researcher/filmmaker Ian Mauro
