So you want to be a journalist

Follow in the footsteps of Mary Simon and the late Jose Amaujaq Kusugak, who both started their careers as journalists. Or chart your own path in the Northern or Southern media.

The deadline for the annual Gil Purcell Memorial Journalism Scholarship for Aboriginal Canadians application is November 15, 2013. The $4,000 scholarship was established in 1990 in memory of Gil Purcell, who worked as the general manager of the Canadian Press from 1945-1969. Applicants must be First Nations, Métis or Inuit and should either be enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution in a journalism program or enrolled in another program with a journalistic extra-curricular activity.
