ITK President Natan Obed reacts to the Feb. 9 unanimous decision from the Supreme Court of Canada upholding An Act Respecting First Nations, Inuit and Métis Children, Youth and Families. The Act, which came into effect in 2020, returned power and control of Indigenous child welfare and well-being to Indigenous peoples. The Government of Quebec appealed the law but the Supreme Court struck down that appeal.

“We, as Inuit, are really excited about the ability to take advantage of this act and its implementation,” said ITK President Natan Obed.
