Summary of the Initiative

Between November 2014 and Feb. 2016 six workers (one in each ISR community) recorded the costs of food in their local grocery stores based on a list of about 100 commonly bought items in standard sizes. The recordings happened about every 3 month to 4 months , for a total of 4 times.

Primary Goals

  • To compare community gathered food prices to quarter annual reports from the federal government.
  • To attempt to capture large variation in food prices or extreme food prices
  • To obtain information about important food security factors not record in federal reports e.g. gas and oil prices / availability of country food in grocery stores.
