The community freezer provides moose and char from the Nunatsiavut Government and other harvested food for residents depending on availability. We also offer emergency staples, sugar, tea, milk, etc. We limit what we give out, seniors one a week all others every two weeks. Community kitchen is offered through the Nunatsiavut Department of Health and Social Development and NiKigijavut Hopedalimi for chosen households and families depending on their social and economic situation. We offer them the opportunity to expand their cooking skills with wild food and store bought meats.
-Continued support to provide harvested food for Community Freezer
-Continued support from Nunatsiavut Department of Health and Social Development for ALL foods ordered and bought (western food) for Community Kitchens
-Wild meat is more accessible for ALL residents of Hopedale, not only certain people
-Families now can prepare and cook meals more nutritiously and more affordably when cooking instead of canned and processed and heat up food.
We use traditional recipes for harvested foods, the food is either baked, dried, boile and fried.
